TREVOR JOHN WRIGHT
May 26, 1931 - December 4, 2020
From the inception of our Anglo Indian Recreational Club back in the early to mid-'80s, Trevor was front and centre of all our activities—attending meetings of our social committee, offering suggestions and advice and last, but far from least, volunteering to phone folks and let them know about upcoming social events or to give them a gentle nudge about membership dues.
As many of you know, Trevor, was always a cheerful, smiling presence at all our picnics, day trips, and in years gone by at our Halloween costume parties and New Years' Eve gala dances. He sportingly took part in trivia quiz contests, parlour games and in belting out Christmas carols at our annual Festive Season tea parties. More recently, along with Rosemary and Caroline, he would meet up with us for lunch in various restaurants around Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
Trevor, you will be greatly missed, and we'll always remember with affection, your easy-going joie de vivre, your enthusiasm and loyal support of all our Club activities, and your kind, helpful and generous attitude towards friends and acquaintances who were all part of our many happy times in years gone by.
An excerpt from the Memorial Service for Trevor by Bishop Robert Redmile
"As most of you will know by now, this week we lost a beloved and
early member of our Parish of Saint Saviour here in Richmond. Mr Trevor
Wright passed away on Friday night after having suffered a severe stroke on
Monday morning. Mr Wright became a member of this Parish nigh on thirty
years ago, and was in his quiet and gentlemanly way a stalwart defender of
the Faith, a faithful communicant, and a helpful pillar of the Congregation.
He will be truly missed by his wife, Rosemary, his daughter Caroline who is
also a member of our Parish, and his wider family and many friends. We pray
that God will grant unto our brother rest and peace, and a joyful
resurrection at the Second Advent of Our Lord Jesus Christ. " |
The following is an obituary honouring Trevor's life and career milestones.
The Wright family is deeply saddened at the loss of Trevor who passed away on December 4, 2020 at Vancouver General Hospital after a short illness. Trevor was born in Bombay, India on May 26, 1931. He immigrated to England in 1952 where he commenced his career as an Engineer/Officer with the British Merchant Navy. He worked initially on cargo liners and then transferred to passenger liners which operated between England and South Africa.
After marrying Rosemary in Harrow-on-the-Hill, England in 1960 Trevor decided to quit working on luxurious passenger liners and accepted the position of Chief Engineer on British cargo/passenger ships so that Rosemary could accompany him on many of his voyages.
However, once their children Christopher, Gail and Caroline were of school age it was decided that the family would immigrate to Canada to reunite with Trevor's brother Robert and his sister Cynthia as well as a cousin who had already settled in this country. Trevor arrived in Canada in March 1969 followed by Rosemary and the children in in April of that year.
His first employment in Ontario was with a couple of Insurance Companies. Then, armed with his professional qualification as an Engineer, he joined the Ontario Pressure Vessel and Safety Department as an Inspector.
In 1974 Trevor and his family moved to Alberta where he joined the Alberta Pressure and Safety Department – a position which involved working with the start up of operations at Fort McMurray from 1974 to 1978.
His final employment was with the Province of British Columbia Boiler & Pressure Vessel Program from where he retired as an Inspecting Power Engineer/Chief Examine, in May 1996.
Trevor will be greatly missed by his wife Rosemary, son Christopher, daughters Gail and Caroline, as well as grand-daughters Stephanie and Kaila, and grandson Anthony and two great-granddaughters Jaylene and Kinsley.
