From Eric Liu:

Hi folks,

Just got home from the movie featuring Leonard Cohen and his Norwegian girlfriend Marianne.  They met at Hydra in Greece.  It is an island where no cars are permitted.  A fabulous and very idyllic location of sun, sand and good wine.  This movie is a well done B/W documentary of 1hr 36 mins.   Actual clips.  No actors.  If you love Cohen's songs, you MUST see this movie.   Thank me later!

It ends with Cohen's later concerts at the Albert Hall.   His song "Hallelujah" has had 300 versions done by various artists.

Cohen attracted many many ladies in his career.  He lived with a Suzanne in Montreal and flitted back and forth to Hydra to hook up with his muse (artist's inspiration) Marianne.   Both of his girlfriends had songs penned with their names.

The end is very touching.  You will understand this complicated relationship in the final moments.

The other 2 movies Yesterday (Beatles) and Rocketman (Elton John) do not have the artists themselves but actors playing and singing their songs.   This movie in my humble opinion is far better for music lovers.  Very factual.

Jacquie Michael's grand-daughter Olivia Fronteddu starred in an India-inspired solo performance of a Modern Ballet piece by choreographer Tanner Plecas which won her a Diamond standing in the 2019 Synergy Dance Competition. Be sure to watch her outstanding performance at https://youtu.be/1EMpv-P-clQ

Olivia has been accepted into the Pre-Professional Program at the prestigious Joffrey Ballet Company in Chicago, and will be joining them in June to spend the summer in training.

Mega congratulations Olivia!

INTERNATIONAL ANGLO INDIAN REUNION

The International Anglo-Indian Reunion held in Chennai in January drew a huge number of attendees from Australia (largely from Perth), Britain, New Zealand, Canada and the USA.

A fairly large group from Ontario spearheaded the Canadian contingent, while Keith Vint, Lesley Jack and me (Margaret Deefholts) were the only ones from British Columbia.

The week long programme kicked off with a customary "Meet and Greet" afternoon and a formal welcome ceremony by local and visiting dignitaries. Events included symposiums on a variety of topics relating to the Community and literary readings by Anglo Indian writers and authors, an evening variety performance showcasing Anglo Indian talent, a lively jam session at a beach resort and a tour of Chennai that introduced visitors to this historic city and its environs. Closing out the week's celebrations, guests - men in dignified formal wear, women in dazzling ball gowns - gathered at the ITC Grand Chola Hotel to feast on a lavish banquet (traditional cuisine from all parts of South India) and to dance the night away.

It was a joyous Reunion in the best traditions of Anglo Indian hospitality.

Kudos to Harry MacLure, his vivacious wife Jillian, and to the Master of Ceremonies, Richard O'Connor.
